Burns is a former federal, state and municipal prosecutor, practicing criminal law since 1998. In addition to his practice with the Wetmore Law Firm, he also serves as a Municipal Judge for the City of Folly Beach. Throughout his career, and from all perspectives of the judicial system, he has earned an outstanding reputation with law enforcement, prosecution and the judiciary. Born and raised in Charleston, Spencer loves calling the Lowcountry home. She began her career as a prosecutor for the Charleston County Solicitor’s Office, where she spent years in the courtroom pursuing justice for residents and local businesses.
She then served as the City Administrator for the City of Folly Beach, working closely with the Mayor, City Council, and the City’s boards and commissions to manage every aspect of local government.
In 2020, she was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 115, serving James Island, Johns Island, Folly Beach, Kiawah, and Seabrook.
Spencer graduated from Princeton University and Vanderbilt University Law School before returning home to serve the Lowcountry. She and her husband live on Folly Beach with their two amazing daughters and two crazy dogs.
Melanie joined the Wetmore Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina in January, 2022. She brings a wealth of knowledge and has worked in the legal field since 2005. She has extensive
experience in civil, criminal and probate matters.
Melanie is a member of the Charleston Association of Legal Assistants and is a Notary Public for the State of South Carolina. From 2013 until 2015, Melanie was the Treasurer of the Charleston Association of Legal Assistants. Melanie was born and raised in the Lowcountry and loves to serve her community.
